Born in Yogyakarta, May 28, 1950, Sri Hartati began her singing career in the pop realm. In 1968 he began participating in the Radio Bintang held by Radio Republik Indonesia Yogyakarta and won second place in the type of Pop Entertainment music. In the same year, after winning the championship, he received an offer to work at RRI to help vocal artists, which at that time were still few in number. One year later, in 1969, Sri Hartati received a decree to work as a permanent assistant or contract worker at RRI to become part of a radio orchestra. In 1971 Sri Hartati again took part in the Radio Star event with the Pop category and won 1st place. The award sent her to a music festival in Jakarta, although in the end she did not get the best results.
As a contract employee at RRI, once every four years Sri Hartati attends an audition held by the central RRI. Auditions are carried out as an assessment for the artists who are members of it. At that time, there were three types of vocals, namely pop entertainment, seriosa and keroncong. At least the artists must master the three types of vocals to maintain consistency in filling radio entertainment. This is what brought Sri Hartati to focus on keroncong music.
In 1974, for the first time Sri Hartati took part in the Radio Star with the type of keroncong music, in this competition she won the first place. In 1975 she also won the first place in the Radio Star contest. In the same year, for the second time Sri Hartati was sent to participate in a music festival in Jakarta and won first place at the national level.
After winning keroncong music in the 1974 radio star show, Sri Hartati received a call from the Head of the Danurejan Sub-District of Yogyakarta City to develop the art of keroncong music in the sub-district by establishing a group. The invitation to establish a keroncong group moved Sri Hartati and became one of the founders of OK Onda (Oenit Danuredjan's Keroncong Orchestra). Unexpectedly, the keroncong orchestra grew rapidly and there were lots of devotees, even attracting residents outside the Danurejan District to join. Therefore, in 1975, OK Onda changed its name to the Surya Mataram keroncong orchestra because the members were not only from the Danurejan District.
The routine activities of Surya Mataram's keroncong orchestra practice were conducted once a week, every Monday, to fill in routine recordings at RRI until 2006. In 1978, the orchestra group carrying Sri Hartati's vocals won the 3rd place award in the national level keroncong group competition. In the same event, Sri Hartati won the title of the best female keroncong singer. In addition, this keroncong orchestra still makes regular monthly recordings on Radio Suara Kenanga until now. Even though now keroncong music has shifted a lot with the entry of imported music from other countries, Sri Hartati and the Surya Mataram keroncong orchestra remain active in practicing and performing at various events, for example being part of the opening and closing of the Yogyakarta Arts Festival in 2022. Apart from that, too became a performer for the Keroncong Plesiran program in the Mangunan Pine Forest.
Sri Hartati is currently busy, apart from still practicing and performing with the Surya Mataram orchestra, she is also a vocal coach, both pop and keroncong. Not only that, he often helps as a music judge and receives invitations to sing at several venues, both at regional and national levels.
