R.Sukaryono

R. Seto Hadi Wardoyo whose real name is R. Sukaryono is a descendant of Darmogati who was formerly in charge of carrying out the Jamasan Daun Lontar ceremony. According to the story, the palm leaves were given by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono VII to Raden Penewu Wonososro (Darmogati), who at that time served as a forest nurse in the Gunungkidul Regency area. The name Wonososro is taken from the word "wana" (forest) and "sasra" means one thousand.

Initially, the ceremony of jamasan Lontar Leaves containing Fiber Kalimasada with a cover depicting ruyung and decorated with sea fish scales, was held privately every 1 Sura of the Javanese year and only men were allowed to attend. Meanwhile, the executor of the ceremony may not be carried out by anyone except Darmogati and their descendants. However, since 1974, 78 palm leaf jamasan events have been held openly and may be attended by women.

R. Sukaryono as a descendant of Darmogati not only takes care of the palm leaves but also consistently preserves the jamasan ceremony as was done by his ancestors. According to this retired Yogyakarta regional government employee in 1999, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono VII advised Darmogati that the Kalimasada fiber written in Javanese script be read or recited for 7 days and 7 nights to those present at the ceremony to be heard and absorbed as a way of life. This went on from when Darmogati was still alive to his son, Raden Penewu Wonosari. But because no one could read Javanese script anymore, the ceremony was not held for 7 days and 7 nights, but only for one day.

Until now, R. Sukaryono in Salam Rejo Sentolo village, Kulonprogo Regency, still holds the Palm Leaves Festival, Kulonprogo Regency, which is filled with activities to clean palm leaves so they don't get damaged. Initially, the palm leaves are cleaned with jadah, a type of food made from glutinous rice without salt, followed by applying kasturi oil mixed with alcohol to the palm leaves using a cotton swab, so that the palm leaves become clean again. The conditions accompanying the jamasan ceremony are "Jenang Usik" which means "mosika" or move (given to those present), kasturi oil and jadah without salt which are also distributed to those present.

R Sukaryono lives in Gamping Kidul number 317, RT. 01 RW. 19 villages Ambarketawang Gamping Sleman. Previously worked at the Agriculture District Court (1963 to 1973) and the DIY Regional Government (1973 to 1999). In 2017 he received an award from the Regent of Kulonprogo as a figure in preserving the customs and traditions of Jamasan Daun Lontar.***
