Born in Gunungkidul, March 26, 1960, Purwadmadi is known as a qualified Yogyakarta arts and culture writer. His writing talent was nurtured since he studied at the Faculty of Language and Literature Education, IKIP Yogyakarta (now UNY), 1979 – 1987. He started his writing career as a journalist/editor staff of SKH Kedaulatan Rakyat, Yogyakarta, while still in college (1984-1989 ), and continued as editor/journalist for the Yogya Post Daily, Yogyakarta (1990-1992).
Purwadmadi is very aware that the artistic and cultural life of Yogyakarta which he loves needs to be supported by writing. Armed with the meticulous work of journalists, Purwadmadi devoted his energy and thoughts to strengthening the existence of Yogyakarta arts and culture through various writing activities. From 1992 to 2004, he served as a publicist/lecturer at Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardja. In 2007 he compiled a book about Pak Bagong Kussudiardja's creative process entitled “Joget mBagong, Behind the Tarian Karya Bagong Kussudiardja” (Ministry of Culture and Tourism and YBK). In this institution he also serves as a teacher/instructor of creative writing at the Post-Skilled Artists Scholarship Program, Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardja, Yogyakarta (2014 - present).
Her experience as a journalist and in the public relations field led Purwadmadi to take part in educational institutions. For seven years (2006-2012) he served as a non-permanent lecturer for the course "Copy Writing" at the Communication Studies Program, FISIP, Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University. He also served as a non-permanent lecturer for the course "Feature Writing" at the Journalism Study Program, Department of Communication Science, FISIP, UPN Veteran Yogyakarta (2007-2013); and a non-permanent lecturer in "Advertising Script Writing", at the Visual Communication Design Study Program, Yogyakarta MSD Academy (2009-2011). Starting in September 2020, the UPN Veteran Department of Communication Studies FISIP again asked to become a non-teaching teacher for the Journalistic Language course. In addition, in 2010-2014 Purwadmadi was selected as a professional facilitator for PT NSI Jakarta, for the ICT-EQEP Program organized by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics and the DIY Education, Youth and Sports Office.
Outside of educational institutions, he contributed his expertise in writing to the DIY Culture Office. In this institution, Purwadmadi has contributed many written works, including a book of cultural essays Yogya Ragam Cultural Expressions (Yogyakarta Special Region Department of Culture, 2019), the book Daya Pangaribawe Privileges (Sekretariat Parampara Praja, 2017), the book "Profile of Yogyakarta Artists and Cultural Persons #13" (TBY, 2014), and “Profile of Yogyakarta Artists and Culture #14” (TBY, 2015). He also co-authored the book of memory and biography “Tino Sidin, Image Teacher and Multidimensional Person” (Ministry of National Education and Taman Tino Sidin, Yogyakarta, 2015). Purwadmadi's passion for dance has contributed four books in a series of documentaries on traditional performing arts published by Taman Budaya Yogyakarta (TBY). Each one is “Traditional Performing Arts #3: Beksan Guntur Segara, Bedhaya Kuwung-uwung, Bedhaya Angron Sekar; Beksan Bugis” (TBY, 2014), “Traditional Performing Arts # 4: Bedhaya Tejanata; Srimpi Nadheg Putri; Former Jebeng; Beksan Floret” (TBY, 20140, “Traditional Performing Arts #5”: Beksan Bandabaya, Mantro, Panjidor, Srimpi Rangga Janu” (TBY, 2016), and “Traditional Performing Arts #6, Beksan Etheng, Golek Pocung Kethoprak, Golek Lambangsari ” (TBY, 2017). It is through these written works that Purwadmadi has contributed his abilities to proclaim Yogyakarta's arts and culture.
Purwadmadi is not only a reliable art and culture journalist, he is also a performer of literary arts. He has written no less than four novels: a silat novel “Larakan” (2006), “Sinden” (Navila, Yogyakarta, 2007), “Laskar Sabrang, Sangkan” (Aditera, Bandung, 2007), and “Laskar Sabrang, Arah Tuju” (Aditera, Bandung, 2007), . In the field of play literature, he has also written a ketoprak script which was staged on National Press Day 2014, entitled “Gonjang Ganjing Kabar Miring,” and composed the script/script-tv soap opera miniseries for TVRI Yogyakarta entitled “Srawung Kampung” which aired in June. -July-August 2017. In addition, he published a collection of poems entitled "Wayang and Others" (Interlude, Yogyakarta, 2015) as well as a collection of stories, Telasih Wulan September's Cekak (Bina Graphic, 2020); and, together with Subandi, he also published an illustrated Javanese piwulang book, “Pictures of Pitutur, Komik Panakwan” (TBY, 2015). In each of these works, it is clear that Purwadmadi's strong love for arts and culture.
His work in the arts and culture and education eventually led this man who is domiciled in Karangjati RT 06 RW 37, Sinduadi, Mlati, Sleman to act as a member of the Cultural Expert at the Secretariat of Parampara Praja, Pemda DIY (2017 to 2020); Member of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Expert Team, DIY Culture Service (2017 to 2019); Member of the Cultural Council of Sleman Regency (2017-2019); and in 2020 was elected Member of the DIY Cultural Council.
