History
Initially the center of the Tamansiswa College was in Kampung Tanjung, which is now named Jalan Gadjah Mada (formerly Station Weg), Lempuyangan. Tamansiswa College then developed rapidly, as a result the existing college houses in Kampung Tanjung, Lempuyangan were no longer adequate. Therefore, Ki Hajar Dewantara moved the Tamansiswa College to Wirogunan. The Tamansiswa College bought the yard and house (now the Dewantara Kirti Griya Museum) and their contents at Gevangenis Loan Wirogunan (now Jalan Tamansiswa) to become the center of the new Tamansiswa College. When he moved to Wirogunan, Tamansiswa College did not yet have a pendapa. Ki Hajar Dewantara emphasized the need for Tamansiswa to have a pendapa. To realize Ki Hadjar Dewantara's idea of establishing a pendapa, a commission for pendapa founders was formed, consisting of:
Chairman: Ki R. Roedjito
Deputy Chairman: B.P.H. Soerjodiningrat
Planner: G.P.H. Tedjokoesomo
Ir. Soeratin Sosrosoegondo
Assistant: Ki Panewu Katri Kartisoeseno
Executor: R. Sindoetomo
The erection of the Pendapa Agung Tamansiswa building began on Sunday Legi 12 Jumadil Awal 1869, or July 10, 1938. Its establishment was marked by the laying of the first stone by Ki Hadjar Dewantara's wife, Nyi Hadjar Dewantara, marked by a marble stone inscription with the following inscription:
BATOE INSTALLATION - FIRST 10 -VIII - 1938 12 -V- 1859 / 1357 BY NJI HADJAR DEWANTARA AMBOEKA RARASANGESTI WIDJI
The inscription is then mounted on the jagged wall of the pendapa on the front side, so that everyone who enters the pendapa from the pendapa can read it.
The sentence "Amboeka Raras Angesti Widji" (Ambuka Raras Angesthi Wiji), is Candrasangkala in 1869 J. The word Ambuka has the character witangan (value): 9, the word Raras has the character wilangan 6, the word Angesthi has the character wilangan (value): 8, the word Wiji has the character of wilangan (value): 1. The meaning of these values when reversed shows the numbers for 1869 Java.
On Tuesday Kliwon, 2 Ruwah 1889 or 27 September 1938, a mob installation ceremony was held, accompanied by driving gold nails into the molo which was carried out by B.P.H. Surjodiningrat. Mob is a horizontal wooden beam that has the highest and sacred position, located on the top roof of the house as the base of the usuk brunjung (top roof of the Joglo building).
Pendapa Agung Tamansiswa was officially opened on Wednesday Kliwon 23 Pasa 1869 or 6 November 1938. The opening ceremony coincided with the opening of the 3rd General Meeting (Tamansiswa Congress). Since then, the Tamansiswa Congress has always been held at the Tamansiswa Agung Pendapa. Until now, the Agung Tamansiswa Hall is used as a place for educational visits for students. In addition, it also functions as a place for field lectures for students. The local community also uses the Tamansiswa Agung Hall for social activities, practicing dance, and other art events. Pendopo Agung Tamansiswa was designated as a Cultural Heritage Building through the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 243/M/201S dated 18 December 2015.
