Preservers and Traditional Traditions in the role of an association that shares knowledge and understanding of the meaning and value of Tosan Aji and provides support for its traditional care. Established on April 17, 1983 at nDalem Mangunkusuman JI. Mrs Ruswo 45, Yogyakarta. The Secretariat of Paheman Memetri Wesi Aji (Association of Valuable or Exalted Iron Preservers) is located at nDalem Puspodiningratan, JI. Major General Sutoyo No. 66, Jogjakarta. Pametri Wiji provides a forum for conservationists, sympathizers, and tosan aji fans, and even the general public who want to know the ins and outs of tosan aji. The Aji Iron Conservation Association (Tosan Aji) or Pametri Wiji was born after going through a relatively long series of processes. Tosan aji conservationists—before having an organizational platform—often met to simply share experiences and discuss various knowledge and understandings about tosan aji that were passed down by their ancestors. In its development, these meetings and discussions were framed in informal and limited workshops attended by people who already knew each other. Meetings of this kind are called "blantikan" and are closed in nature, making it difficult for the general public to be involved in the process of sharing experiences and exploring the legacy of ancestral knowledge about tosan aji. In this context, relatively only certain people who are involved in the meeting have knowledge and understanding of tosan aji. Inspired by the Bowo Roso aji tosan conservationist organization which had previously been established in Surakarta, Yogyakarta aji tosan conservationists spearheaded by RM. Supono and Suwarsono Lumintu formed an association for tosan aji conservationists in Yogyakarta to open opportunities for various studies related to tosan aji, and open it to the public to make it easier for the wider community to know and understand tosan aji.
The association was then named Paheman Memetri Wesi Aji, abbreviated as Pametri Wiji. Routine activities carried out by Pametri Wiji are workshops which are held every month and are open to the public. In turn, Pametri Wiji won the trust of the Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Palace to participate in enlivening the Sekaten celebrations, by holding a tosan aji exhibition at Siti Hinggil. Other activities to preserve the heritage of ancestral knowledge and the tradition of caring for it, are monthly regular gatherings, exhibitions, siraman (jamasan) heirlooms as a form of service to the community every Suro month, sharing knowledge and understanding of tosan aji for the community, as well as studies and documentation of various things related to tosan aji. Tosan aji or wesi aji is a Javanese term to describe various types of traditional weapons made of iron and considered as heirlooms, such as keris, spears, swords, and so on. Tosan aji has the meaning of valuable or glorified iron. Each type of weapon made from tosan aji contains various components that are intertwined in it and form a certain meaning or value. The knitting of various components, such as technology, aesthetics, philosophy, identity, status, and power will produce different meanings and values for each type of weapon that is produced when there is a reduction or addition of the components contained in the knitting. In this context, Pametri Wiji as an association for tosan aji conservationists in Yogyakarta does not only open space to display various forms and forms of tosan aji, but also seeks to share knowledge and understanding of the meanings and values contained therein. Even efforts to provide services to the community through siraman or jamasan heirlooms every month of Suro have given direction to washing or cleaning heirlooms which implies cleansing oneself and the heart in order to get protection and safety from the Creator. Pametri Wiji provides wide space for human appreciation of his existence. ***
