Batik, one of the markers of the archipelago's civilization that has been recognized as a world heritage, has been an integral part of the Middle East for more than a millennium, has inspired Javanese traditional clothing, especially the Yogyakarta custom. Meanwhile, the rich variety of batik patterns that have developed in Java, peon a people and messages for ordinary gymnastics have been creative until now.
As one of Yogyakarta's special characteristics, Javanese traditional clothing has been introduced to the younger generation through various thoughts and activities.
Along with the increasing awareness of environmental preservation, various efforts have been made to bring us back to the coloring process through the stages of using natural materials. Several figures have contributed and played a role in creating new patterns, instilling awareness to save the environment through natural dyeing processes, as well as instilling a love for the young generation for Yogyakarta's traditional Javanese clothing. One of them is the familiar figure of Dna there, Mas Jati.
Full name R. Jatinurcahyo, ST., MM was born in Bantul on October 16, 1971. From a young age, Mas Jati has shown his love for Javanese cultural works, especially fashion. The family environment, in this case the parents, have instilled a love for this noble tradition. From the age of his youth to the time of his education in tertiary institutions, a number of achievements have been achieved through various competitions in the realm of cultural arts, especially traditional dressmaking.
His love for the treasures of Javanese culture is what helped lead him to devote himself to the Pura Pakualaman environment, thus obtaining the title R. Riya Budyo Reksoko. With all his skills, insight and dedication, this Kapanewon Sewon resident, Bantul, has won the trust of Penghageng Pura to carry out his daily duties at the Pura Pakualaman Museum, Yogyakarta. This assignment was carried out in the midst of his main activities as a lecturer at Bina Sarana Informatika University.
The member of the DIY Education Council (2017-2022) also devotes his attention to developing the character of the culture-based young generation through various organizational activities such as the DIY Dimas Diajeng IY Association and Barahmus (Museum Deliberative Body) DIY.
Meanwhile, in his humble daily life, his love for classic patterned batik and concern for the welfare of local residents has encouraged him to set up a handmade batik business 'Color of Nature' in 2013 which employs manual processes and absorbs local labour. Despite his busy schedule of daily activities, this does not diminish his enthusiasm and commitment to instilling the love of the next generation for classic Yogyakarta-style cultural works. This is evidenced through his direct involvement in organizing various cultural creation competitions ranging from classical dance to Javanese traditional fashion at Yogyakarta (2013-2018). This involvement is also based on his anxiety to see the tendency of some people who are considered to have committed deviations in preserving traditional clothing styles.
His growing capacity and insight in line with his dedication has earned him the trust and been asked to share his knowledge as a resource person in various seminars and studies on various Javanese cultural works.
Currently, Mas Jati is focusing on creating new patterns framed in the classic Yogyakarta Pakualaman style, which is expected to further enrich the cultural repertoire of haute couture culture within the Pura Pakualaman environment.
In the end, an effort to preserve a tradition full of meanings and noble symbols, with all its dimensions, including increasing welfare and saving the environment, requires totality as well as pure, selfless love. At this point, his commitment and dedication is needed in an effort to instill a love for the younger generation for the cultural heritage of their ancestors. ***
