Annabel Teh Gallop was born in Winchester, August 5, 1961. She grew up in Brunei Darussalam and studied at Bristol University and the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) until she earned her Ph.D with a dissertation entitled (in Indonesian) ` Cap Melayu Writings: A Study of Islamic Epigraphy from Southeast Asia' in 2002.
Currently, he is Head of the Southeast Asia Section at the British Library, being a supervisor in the process of digitizing manuscripts in the Malay, Bugis and Javanese collections, some of which are manuscripts from the Yogyakarta Palace and Yogyakarta Pakualaman Temple. His work in acquiring the Yogyakarta Palace manuscripts at the British Library is a manifestation of his concern for saving Javanese manuscripts.
Her various contributions to manuscripts, Annabel curated the exhibition "Early Malay Printing 1603-1900"; "The Golden Letter: Indonesian Writing Traditions" (1991); and "Warisian Surat Melayu" (1994). His publications include "Golden Letter: Writing Culture in Indonesia" (1991), "Indonesian Views in the Past" (1995), and others.
In 2019 Annabel with M.C. Ricklefs identified 75 manuscripts in England to submit copies to the Yogyakarta Palace. In the paper presented at the handover of the digitized manuscripts, Annabel explained her thoughts on the "Digitization Project at the British Library: Illumination and Binding". ***
