DIY is known as an area with a noble cultural character. This character is interpreted as a condition where people who have more moral qualities of the Special Region of Yogyakarta who are cultured are interpreted as conditions where local culture is able to absorb elements of foreign culture, and is able to strengthen local culture, which is then also able to increase resilience and develop the cultural identity of the local community with local wisdom and local excellence.
The DIY Culture Office through its main tasks and functions has a strategic role in the process of internalizing cultural values through both cultural subjects and cultural objects. In terms of cultural subjects, the figure or figure approach is an effective effort in providing inspirational learning for the community, especially the younger generation, in emulating thoughts, attitudes and behavior. The character approach will provide an actual picture of the twists and turns of a character in the journey of preserving DIY's cultural treasures. Figures of cultural artists who become role models also become effective interactive spaces in efforts to build new creations in developing DIY culture.
In 2020, the Regional Government of the Special Region of Yogyakarta through the DIY Culture Office gave the Yogyakarta Governor's Cultural Award to 24 recipients consisting of five categories namely ART preservers and/or performers; TRADITIONAL CONSERVERS and/or TRADITIONAL DOCUMENTERS; Preserver and/or Cultural Heritage and Cultural Heritage Executors; Creators (Pioneers and/or Creators of Cultural works) and the Humanist category. We then ask the recipients to be able to participate in the Cultural Award Recipient's Work Exhibition.
The holding of the Karya Award activities was carried out on March 15-16 2021. There were 7 educational presentation sessions, both workshops, talk shows, symposiums which had been held. The implementation of the Cultural Award Recipient's Work Ceremony is indeed different from previous years due to the pandemic and then we have to adapt so that activities are carried out online and offline. Even so, challenges will always coincide with opportunities, the wisdom of a pandemic is to bring up new creativity that explores wayang more with the power to spread information publications and broadcasts that are much wider, so that there are more of them and they are easily appreciated by the public.
The title of the recipient's work begins with a talk show held with the painting artist Nasirun, followed by a talk show with the artists Garin Nugroho and Shaggy Dog. The third session, education regarding the management of the written and theater tradition was discussed through two figures namely purwadmadi and Susilo Nugroho or we know Den Baguse Ngarsio. On the second day, the activity began with a talkshow and online workshop with Mrs. Theresia Suharti, followed by a virtual exhibition session on cultural heritage buildings, recipients of the Yogyakarta Governor's Cultural Award 2020. The event continued with a traditional workshop with the preservers of Yogyakarta custom I, namely Mr. R. Bambang Nur Singgih, Amir Junawan (Wot Galeh Traditional Leader), and Pametri Wiji, lastly the event was closed with a Room Tour which was carried out with a cultural figure who is also an architect, namely Mr. Eko Prawoto. This series of activities for the acceptance work title will continue to be carried out every year in order to become an expressive space as well as an educative space for the wider community so that new generations emerge with the development of interests and talents in accordance with the expertise and expertise of cultural maestros, namely the recipients of the Governor's Cultural Award.
